http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mckiaxRG3fo&safe=active

Jonathan Ross

The codes and conventions of the Jonathan Ross show is, Tom Cruise talks about the release date of Jack Reacher. which will released a few day after Christmas. Tom Cruise also talks about the film, for example the plot and what the storyline contains. During the Jonathan Ross show he talks about the characters in his film, mostly his character. He explains what he characters role is and how he plays the most effective part in the film. The target audience for this show would be the younger audience as, Jonathan Ross is targeted at the younger audience as the celebrities who are guest on the show normally appeal to the younger audience. The targeted audience would fall under the category of D/E as the people who would be watching the Jonathan Ross show would be in school and still trying to get their education. This way of promoting is effective as it promotes to the younger audience who mostly go to cinemas to watch films. This film is also targeted at the younger audience therefore, it would be a good show to promote on as, it would be to the same target audience.
The similarities this has with Ill manors is that they both go onto the show to promote their film and provide information about the film. The difference is that Plan B went on the Jonathan Ross to talk about why he created the film. and the issues that take place in London that encouraged him to created the film.

UGC (User generated content)

User generated content is when the audience are when the audience are able to provide comment's which would be promoting the film. this would be done as it would provide Jack Reacher with feedback on the film and also would provide Jack Reacher with promoting. This would be done through twitter as they would tweet about the film which would promote it and attract new audience.

The two main examples for E Media would be the Ill Manors website and the Ill Manors social media websites. The Main similarities between the two would be, that in order to access these websites you will need have the internet, otherwise you will not be able to use these facilities. Another similarity between the two platforms is, that you can now access them both from your phone and also tablets, which then makes it easier for the public to keep up to date with Ill Manors.

The difference between the two platforms would be, that the Ill Manors website would be used to inform the target market about the film. The Ill Manors website would provide the audience with information on the film such as, the certificate of the film, also the website would provide information on the director Den Drew (Plan B). The information the website would provide on Plan B would be his music career, which would be Ill Manors using synergy in promoting not only the film but also Plan Bs music.

You can compare E Media with the Broadcast as, Plan B conducted an interview on Jonathan Ross's show, which can be access on the internet. this would then be a similarity with the website and the social networking site as in order to get onto these sites you would need to have the internet present. The differences between the two platforms would be, that the broadcast would be hearing someone's opinion and listening to their views, whereas with e media you would be reading someone's interview or views.

Critics Reviews,

Examiner.com

An Action/Crime/Mystery type film, I feel as if the script was super solid for this genre, yet lacked some of the constant thrills one would expect from a Cruise featured film. Nonetheless, I was glad to see how the production team was able to tone things down just enough (PG-13) to where a larger audience could enjoy "Jack Reacher" and possibly be a family choice for the holidays. It was nice to see quite a few father/son groups going into the theater.

Voice Movies.com

As fans of Child's 17 (and counting) Reacher novels know, the drifter hero is 6-foot-5, which means that to bring this oak of a man to life on screen, the comparatively diminutive Tom Cruise (5-foot-7) would have to overcompensate with some serious tough-guy glowering. That was the expectation, anyway. Instead, when surrounded on a dark Pittsburgh street by five fools who have been paid a hundred bucks each to beat him bloody, Cruise's Reacher gives a wry "you-asked-for-it" shrug, then puts the five down. Effortlessly. Convincingly. Cruise is definitely too short for the gig, but in this first fight, he proves his tough-guy chops. Outraged Reacher readers can stand down.

Genre Conventions

Crime Fiction
Drama

As murder mysteries/crime thrillers go, Jack Reacher is, the various twists and turns in the narrative not coming as too much of a surprise due to the genre conventions. The main narrative change was the help of the hero turning into the villain.

3. What are the main similarities/differences between your new film and 'Ill Manors'?

The similarities between the two movies were, that they both contain violence. Both movies contain a chase between characters, as something is taken from them. In Ill Manors a mother had left her baby which she later went back for. Also in Jack Reacher Tom cruise co star is kidnapped who he then has to save which contains violence and mostly guns.

There are many differences between the two movies, on being the budget for Ill Manors was low, whereas Jack Reacher had a large budget to work with. Furthermore the settings of he two films are different with Ill Manors being shot in England and Jack Reacher in America. Another difference between the two films was the main characters used. Jack Reacher used a well known character in tom cruise, whereas Ill Manors used a not so famous main character in Rizwan Ahmed.

4. Go to the official website of your film. Analyse it. What different features does it contain? How does it try to engage the audience?

As soon as you enter the website of Jack Reacher you come across the trailer. This then is the first thing the audience will notice which they will then watch and be engaged into the film. It also gives the audience an option to share to trailer on social networking sites. This would be Jack Reacher trying to encourage the audience promote the film.

The website also gives the audi
ence a chance to play a game. The game allows the audience to become apart of the film as, the game is all about Jack Reachers role in the film, which is taking the law into your own hand in order to get a job done. This will then interest and attract the target audience in watching the film as they would want to find out the storyline of the film.

The website also has quotes from celebrities scrolling across the home page of the website. The quotes contain what the celebrities though of the film. This would engage the audience as by, if they see that someone who they look up to is praising the film and they are a fan of that person, they will then decide to watch the film.

5. Embed the official trailer on your blog. Analyse it. Consider the Media Language used and how it would appeal to audiences.

The trailer uses fast music to connote the pace of the film to the audience. By uses fast music this then shows that the film will contain a lot of action during the film also, the fast pace of music shows that the film will contain violence. The trailer also contains fast cuts between shots, this then also connotes to the audience that it will be a action packed film with violence. The trailer contains quotes from celebrities on the films. This will attract the audience’s attention to the movie as they would want to know what celebrity is praising the film, from there if they follow that celebrity they are more likely to watch the film.

Slide 4

How are the characters/starts in the film represented?

E media

The way the characters are represented in the print ad is, one of the main characters in Ill Manors is presented on the cover of the poster, therefore this would connote to the audience the significance of this character in the film. By placing this character in the middle of the poster this would connote to the audience that everything will be based around him in the movie. Also this showing of him holding the gun would connote that it belongs to this character or his actions will relate to this gun later on in the film. The gun would also connote that it may get the character in some sort of trouble.

Broadcast media

The character that are represented in the broadcast media, is Ill Manors director Plan B also played a part in the film as a taxi driver. Plan B discusses the characters as models of real life council kids today. He also explains that the actions they produce in the film are the same reason to why they are like that in reality. The reason he gives is because of lack of opportunity and parent support. He also states that the characters in the film are some what to blame for their actions however the media provides an over exaggerated story, which will not only catch the eyes of the viewers but also make them believe what they want them too. He then tells that the characters he uses in his movie are not highly paid actors, they are just average everyday kids who have not been given the chance to how their skills. By using these characters Plan b wants to bring everyone interest that these council estate kids who are believed to have no talent need to be given the opportunity to showcase what they can do.

E media

The way the characters are represented in e media would be, the characters names would be on e media which they would also provide the characters real names. This would be done as if the target market may of heard of any of the character this would then encourage them to watch the film, as they may of enjoyed the characters last movie. they would also provide movies that characters were in before as if the target market had seen that movie and enjoyed it they would then believe that this movie would also be good therefore encouraging them to watch it. E media would also provide pictures from the film of the characters in order to connote the role the characters have. E media may also provide the characters description in the film as it would be a way for the audience to understand the characters role in the film.

magazine article

This article promotes the film to the audience in many ways. One way they did this was by the use of celebrities talking about Ill Manors and what they think of the beliefs of Plan B. the article using urban artist such as Tinchy Stryder and Lethal Bizzle, this would be effective as these artist would be in the same industry as Plan B as they are also part of the same genre of music. The interview tells us that what they think of Ill Manors and how effective it will be on the issues Plan B is trying to preach.

There is also a cote in here from Golde, “He’s captured it for kids like me, who grew up in care system, when the street was your father which was normal your abusive father” this quote sums up what message Plan B is trying to send out and make wary. Plan B created this film to show what it is like to be a care home kid or a kid who is always on the road, as he was one of them when he was younger. He wants to show just because you come from a certain background does not mean you do not have any qualities or talents.

This quote also says that these kids are without father figures in their lives therefore turn to the street as they have not had much guidance. This is what Plan B is the message Plan B is trying to send that the street is not the place for anyone as it will only lead you into a cold lonely death. Due to this Plan B created Ill Manors to become a father figure to these kids who have not had it in life.

Now look at what values and ideologies are communicated within these representations

The people that are used to communicate with the audience are the characters from the film. This is because the characters in the film can relate to the target market as plan Bas idea for the film is to have characters that are based on reality. The places that would be used are areas where there are council house as this would be back the concept that the real life events that happen and where they would be happening. The ideas that are used in the film is to being back the concept of why the riots happened and what are the reasons these council estate kids are who they are, also why there actions are what they are. This would be because of the lack of opportunities and also lack of a father figure in life who plan b wants to be to the kids out there, which he plans to do through Ill Manors.

The audience are given a chance to represent themselves in ways such as e media, for example twitter. The audience are able to leave comments on the Ill Manors twitter page expressing what they think of the film and also what they think of the characters. This would benefit Ill Manors as they would receive feedback on what they could do better next time, therefore being able to improve on the next movie created by the director.

Now think of how the film communicates with the audience across three platforms

The print ad and e media both represent their main characters on their page. They would mostly how their stars that have the biggest part in the film. This would be done as it would connote to the audience the importance of the character in the film and also, for the audience who have not seen the film before this would make them think what this characters role in the film is. Also what is this characters relationship with the others.

The kind of audience that would watch this film would be ages from 18-30, this is because the film is rated 18 therefore would appeal to these ages, also this film would appeal to this ages as, the issues in the film would interest these people as they would be the ages that would be able to understand the matter. The race wouldn’t be pacific as this film would appeal to all races as the issues that happen in the film relate to all ages. The gender I believe would be more male than female as they would be able to understand the issues better as some of them would be in the same issue and nearly all of them would know someone who faces this issue.

The place where Ill Manors would be set would be London as, the character inside the film would be from there, and therefore in order to bring up the issue of the film they would need to base the setting of the film inside of London. Also the viewers would mostly be from London as they would understand the issue of the film better as they would be around this sort of life, therefore will understand and be able to relate to the issues that are on display. The viewers of this would be in the E category as, most of the viewers would be still in school and have not finished education yet. However A/B category would also relate to this film as, the issues that are in this film would interest the

Who are the film’s target audience(s) and how do you know?

How is the film promoted to its target audience(s) through:

Print?

Ill Manors is promoting through print advertisements, this is done by presenting the relevant information to its target audience. The information that is stated in bold on the advert is, the release date which is presented in the centre of the poster and is in bold capitals. The poster also presents the directors name in bold capitals, this would attract the target market as if they know who Den Drew (Plan B) is they would then decide to take interest and watch the film. The print ad also contains quotes from celebrities about the film, this would interest the target market as if someone they look up too has praised the film they would then want to watch the film as they would believe they have the same interests has that person. The poster also contains one character from the film which connotes that he has a big effect in the film. The poster also shows a gun which connotes to the audience that the gun plays a significant role in the film.

Broadcasting (TV/Radio/DVD)?

Ill Manors was promoting on Jonathan Ross TV show. Plan B used a highly rated and watched TV show in promoting his movie Ill Manors. He goes onto this show and explains what inspired him in creating the movie and what he wants to gain from it. He states that the main reason he decided on releasing this movie was due to the causes of the riots. He believes that the media were quick to put the blame on the today’s youth before even looking into the matter. He believes that the media does not show the true story and only choose what they believe will sell and what will brainwash people into believe what they want. He created Ill Manors to show the true story on why the street kids are who they are and reasons for this. The main reason for this was the kids not having a parent figure in life to show them the right way. Furthermore he also states that no one wants to take chances on these kids as they do not believe they can contain any talent what so ever.

E media?

Ill Manors is promoted through social networking sites. Ill Manors website contains a link which takes you to their social networking site. The social networking site contains exclusive updates and competitions where the target markets are able to interact and feel a part of Ill Manors. This would be effective as most of Ill Manors target market would be involved in social networking sites, therefore they are able to notice the updates and the competitions which would then encourage them to watch Ill Manors. This would also increase the fan base of Plan Bs music as if he is able to get a wide fan base for Ill Manors they would then look into Plan B and notice he is an artist, from there they would not only watch Ill manors but also listen to his music.

Now look at each platform individually:

What type of audience does the platform reach?

The print advertisement is trying to reach their entire target audience this is because the print advertisement would be placed on bus stops, build boards and magazines, therefore attracting the attention of more than one part of their target audience. The placing of the print advertisement on build boards and bus stops would be done to attract the attention of people who are working. This is done as they would be able to notice the print advertisement on the way to work or on their way back. The use of placing the print advertisement in magazines is done to attract the attention of the younger audience. This is done as the younger audience are more likely to read magazines, therefore coming across this print ad and then attracting their attention.

The broadcasting would be done to attract both the older and younger audience. This is because the older audience would watch a lot of TV as they would be at home for a most of the day. Furthermore they would come across an interview from someone involved in the film which once they watch the interview they would then be interested in watching the film. The broadcasting could also interest the younger audience as they would watch talk shows such as Jonathon Ross they would then see an interview on their from Plan B, once they watch the interview they would then be interested in watching the film.

E media would interest the younger audience, this is because the younger audience spend most their time on social networking sites, therefore once they see the updates and the competitions that Ill Manors are providing they would then feel a part of the film, which would encourage them to watch it.

Who are the producers aiming to appeal to through this platform and how are they doing it?

The print advertisement is aimed by the producers at their target market overall. They would do this as it would be a way to attract the interest and attention of someone who is passing by. This would be done as it would be a way to provide brief information about the film to their target market, which the producers would then hope they would research more into the film.

Broadcasting would be done also to appeal to all of their target market. This would be done as it is a way for Ill manors to provide information about the film and why it was made, providing the background to the film. This would also be done as it is a way for the producers to promote the film too all kinds of audiences which would then be building on their fan base.

E media is done in order to appeal to the younger audience and make them feel a part of the film. E media would be done so the producers can provide them with updates on the film, for example the release dates and character’s name. They would also provide competitions as it would be a way for them to involve their target market with the film. As they would want to make their target market feel a part of the film, which would then encourage them to watch Ill Manors.

Does this platform allow audiences to participate or interact with the film? How?

The e media platform would allow the target audience too interact with the film as they would be able to enter competitions relating to Ill manors which would make them apart of the film. E media would also able the audience to interact with the film as they would able to receive updates on the film which would able them to interact with the film.  Broadcasting would able he audience to interact with the film as they would be provided with information on the film and information that they would not receive normally, for example the reason behind the storyline of the film.

Do audiences play a role in the construction or creation of any the film's promotions or material?

The audience would play a part of promotion of the film as they would be able to promote the film through e media. If someone updates about Ill Manors on their page this would then get noticed by other people using e media which would then benefit Ill Manors. The target market could also be a part in the film as they play a part in the film. Ill manors may recruit their target audience to be a part of the film as a character or someone who plays a part in the background.

The film is promoted through this print ad as it provides pictures of some of the main characters which would make the audience think what are their roles in the film and who are they. The print ad also provides the real names of the characters shown on the advertisement. The print ad also provides quotes which connotes to the audience what the film is going to be about. The print advertisement also shows in bold the release date of the film. This is the most important information for the target audience. The print advertisement also states a couple of times who the director of the film is. This would interest the target audience to watch the film more.

Plan B: 'ill Manors' interview (BBC Radio 1Xtra)

Ben Drew talks to MistaJam about the controversy surrounding his new ill Manors project and the inspiration behind the new single. Ben discusses why he decided to make Ill Manors and what changes he wants to see happening. He talks about how the media talk bad of the youth especially the council estate kids, and how they were blamed for the riots and the real reasons were not shown. He believes the council kids are who they are because of the lack of opportunity and parent guidance in life.

E Media?

Ill Manors is promoted through e media by the use of Facebook and Twitter. Ill Manors provide pages which enable you to find out how you can watch or purchase Ill Manors. It also provides you with information about the film and also pictures to go with it. It also provides you information on the actor’s directors of the film and who was involved in the production of the film.

What type of media language does this platform use?

The print advertisement would do a review of the film which would contain information on the cast which would tell you what their role was in the film and what effective they had. The review would also tell you what certification it is and whether they believe this suits the film. The review would also conduct an interview of the main start of the film or the director. In Ill Manors case it would be Ben Drew as he has an inspiring story to tell in why he created Ill Manors and what changes he wants to make.

The radio and TV side of promotion would offer interviews from the main characters from the film as they would explain their role in the film and also what they think in general of the film, and whether they believe it make changes. The TV side would offer exclusive clips from the movie before its release date which would then encourage the audience more in watching the film.
E media would be the most effective as they would offer, video clips from the film and also the making of the film. They would also offer clips of character in Ill Manors who have appeared in other films. They would also provide blogs where people could provide their views on the film, characters or the director. They would also provide competitions in winning cinema tickets for Ill manors or a chance to win the DVD of Ill Manors.

There are two ways that the radio communication could interact with the audience, one way would be done through talk radio where a cast from the Ill Manor or the director (Ben Drew) would conduct an interview about the movie Ill manors, where as the other radio technique would be a music radio would conduct interviews about the sound Track Ill Manors, which they could have interviews about the sound track.
The print advertisement would be advertised in, tabloid newspapers this is because the target audience of these newspapers would interest Ill Manors target market the most. As this newspaper provides the stories which interest ill Manors target market. The advertisement would also be targeted at major film specialist magazines as, this would be the best chance for Ill manors to get their target market to notice their print ad.

Now think of how the film is promoted across the three platforms?

I believe that Ill manors target audience would be mostly the younger audience. Therefore the best way to communicate with them would be with e media. This is because most of the younger audience are involved in social networking pages and also are regularly checking and updating them. Therefore they would then be able to notice anything to do with Ill manors. Furthermore this is also not only the easiest way but also the cheapest way as it is free for Ill Manors to communicate with their main target market. Hover Ill Manors target audience contains of Politian’s, therefore the bets way to communicate the film to them would be through newspapers such as, the times. This is because they would read these newspapers daily as it would provide them with the information they would need. They would then notice Ill Manors from there taking more interest in the issue. I believe that the platforms would promote the film different to the different target audience that Ill Manors has. I believe to be able to communicate with them you need to find the right platform which relates to that target audience the most. Also you need to find a platform which your target market will  view and follow regularly.
